The Elephant and Castle is an establishment that my husband and I have faithfully visited over the past 17 years. The chichen wings are legendary!! However last Saturday night we decided to take friends with us for an evening meal. Started with the delicious chicken wings which I followed with a grilled chicken caesar salad. The memories were of a sumptous salad with creamy caesar dressing, perfectly cooked chicken and topped with a raw quails egg. HOW WRONG I WAS. The cos lettuce was dressed with what I can only describe as vinegar - there was a mere sprinkling of parmesan cheese and the chicken was more burnt than grilled. The meal was practically inedible and even though I was asked if everything was OK and told two waiting staff that it wasn't - nothing was done to provide a meal that I could eat. The salad was the most expensive meal on our bill and totally disgusting. It's such a shame that an eaterie I have enjoyed for so many years can ruin its reputation in one instant. I certainly will not be back.
